Watercooler: Why, Whitney, Why?
Whitney Perhaps you have preferred to like someone, but everything they're doing turns you off? Meet Whitney. Usually, Whitney Cummings can be a total scream. Her target the Comedy Central roasts is certainly insanely bawdy. She executive produces the continuously entertaining 2 Broke Women. And she's hot, if that is what you're into. But her eponymous sitcom, which she also executive produces and launched last evening? Yikes. Ironically, for just about any show devoted to some sassy mouthed digital digital photographer, the entire experience is jarringly artless. Shrill to the level of infuriating, outfitted by having an assaultive laugh track and full of clichés (will we please euthanize the "boozy, bitter lady friend" concept immediately?), the pair of laughs that did land without any thud were surely cribbed from Cummings' stand-up programs. The comfort - mostly fatigued gags about Kardashians, Cosmo magazine plus an excessively extended seduction bit that went limp way before i had been uncovered to have an awkwardly emotional dénouement - will be a harsh indication in the talent being wasted before our very eyes. What may have been another one of NBC's great, problematic, relatable female figures, a la Liz Lemon or Sophistication Adler, felt a great deal a lot more like the type of harpy people two would find offensive. It's a shame. We love to Cummings, and her costar Chris D'Elia has charm to spare. Here's wanting they find better material continue and then we can all forget this badness happened to such good artists. Perhaps you have have a look at Whitney? Whoever else think? Hollywood Backing Might Be Critical As Reps. Howard Berman, Kaira Sherman Fight
Democratic Congressmen Howard Berman and Kaira Sherman are squaring off however race for that San Fernando Valley’s 30th Congressional District, but a large area of the fight has been fought against in Hollywood. They’re frequent allies in D.C. and therefore are pitted against one another due to California’s recent re-districting. But both Demos have track records of backing Hollywood and can turn to profit from that, based on Politico. Berman, who sits around the House Judiciary Committee, has for a long time championed copyright and anti-piracy legislation important to the. DreamWorks founders Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg holds a Beverly Hilton fundraising event for him in November in the Beverly Hilton that's likely to internet a lot more than $1M. Berman told Politico he’s happy with his Hollywood backing. It shows that I fight for my district, Berman stated. “This is my automobile industry, and that i give consideration into it. But Sherman is a friend from the biz, too. He chairs the Congressional Entertainment Industries Caucus and the current district includes the NBC and Disney galleries. He counts Erectile dysfunction Begley Junior. and Bill Prady, professional producer from the The Large Bang Theory as backers. Sherman stated he thinks he’ll get his share from the dollars and votes. I believe there's likely to be a split, the way in which there's with every community. Its definitely not monolithic. The Hollywood cash each earns will prove useful. Shermans $3.6M war chest is probably the greatest in the home, and Berman has accumulated $1.5M. Eric Bauman, chairman from the LA Democratic Party, predicted the race would total $10M-$12M before it’s over. But fellow Demo Congressman Henry Waxman, a Berman ally for many years, stated that Berman will win the race for Hollywood’s hearts, minds and purses. Its because Howard continues to be there for several years fighting for most of the issues Hollywood likes you, Waxman told Politico. They are fully aware hes together which hes an extremely serious legislator. No matter the way it shakes lower, it won’t be made the decision in the near future. In California’s new “jungle primary” system, the very best two candidates within an open party primary run against one another in November. Which means they’llalmost surely be running against one another once next June, on the other hand five several weeks later.

Getty Images After her rare interview with Charlie Sheen, Wendy Williams can claim something about the actor that we really haven't heard anyone else say. "We had a lot in common," Williams tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Talking to him was as easy as a summer day." VIDEO: Charlie Sheen Roast Previews: William Shatner Schools Charlie on Women That was the talk diva's conclusion after becoming only one of three people the actor sat with to promote his upcoming projects, including Monday's Comedy Central Roast. "We had a really easy conversation. I remember seeing Charlie for the first time in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He wasn't even one of the main characters. But, Charlie and I have grown up in the same era." And apparently, Williams made a fan of Sheen as well. "I'll be honest with you," she tells us. "He leaned in and he said to me, 'You're so real. James Marsden Talks 'Straw Dogs' and the Art of Remaking Classic Films
James Marsden is an acting chameleon. Horror, romantic comedies, musicals, dramas, superhero fare and raunchy romps... the Oklahoma native has done it all, along the way establishing a reputation as one of Hollywood's nicest guys. Now, Marsden is switching gears with a remake of 1971's psychological thriller, 'Straw Dogs,' which opens Friday. Not for the squeamish, the movie finds his character, David, forced to take extreme measures when he and his wife are brutally terrorized by locals. Marsden spoke exclusively with Moviefone about 'Straw Dogs,' remaking classic movies and getting aggressive on screen. Hollywood enjoys dusting off old gems and giving them a fresh coat of paint. In your opinion, what constitutes a good remake? Setting aside the fact you are doing a remake or not, you just have to set your sights on making a good film. If you make a good film, all is forgiven. It depends on the movie, I guess. If you are remaking Gone with the Wind, you have your work cut out for you. What's most important is the balance of familiarity from the original, some elements that are inherent in the original film that need to be there, but also putting a modern spin on it. Once you signed on, was it intimidating to step into Dustin Hoffman's shoes? That's where I hope the 40 years is going to be on my side. By that, I mean the time difference between the first film and this one. He's pitch-perfect in that movie. It's an acting miracle what he achieved. Sam Peckinpah viewed him as the villain of the piece. David is the one coming and creating the tension, creating the conflict and stirring up the pot, showing off and being a bit of an elitist. He was arrogant and condescending to his wife, yet by the end of the film, he's got everyone in their seats on his side and cheering him on. It was a bit daunting taking on a performance that can't really be improved on. Instead of worrying about that, I thought I would just do my thing. I watched the original a few times before and during the shoot to make sure I wasn't doing exactly what he did. Did your director, Rod Lurie, echo those same sentiments or did he allow you to discover David on your own? I think he allowed me to find the character on my own. There were hints of David being the villain or disrespectful to the locals, like walking out during the church sequence. Everybody is trying to find their value in this movie. David is trying to write a screenplay and fit in with these men who are very different than him. It exposes a part of him he may feel insecure about. The fact is he's not the alpha male and doesn't believe in that structure. There was less of David being a villain in this movie and more about living with this set of principles and dealing with conflict in a more mature, civilized way. I admire him for that, but it only goes so far before he is forced into a corner and has to fight back. Touching on that, the film's poster talks about breaking points and you have a wife and kids in real life. In that respect, is it scary getting into David's mindset and contemplating what could potentially push you to your limit? Yeah, being a parent is the thing that could push you there. Nobody wants to go there. There are few things in life that would push me to kill, but that's certainly one of them. To protect your family. I'm not a believer that an animal exists in me, but if need be, if they are in jeopardy or threatened, then certainly. 'Straw Dogs' features some controversial moments. Was it important to keep those intact or would the film still have the same impact if they were watered down? I don't think you can make 'Straw Dogs' and not have those elements in place. That defines the movie. That said, there are strongly different views on some of the themes of the movie. In many ways, this is a kick-ass feminist movie. Our leading actress is not just viewed as a sexual object. She's fierce, intense and strong. If you are going to remake Straw Dogs, you have to have the balls to do it. Did reuniting with your 'Superman Returns' co-star, Kate Bosworth, make it any easier to go to those dark places? Yes, that was one of the reasons I reached out to her before they started casting Amy. We've always been pretty close, pretty good friends, and I knew it not only needed somebody who was brave enough to take on what this role demanded, but who had the chops to do it. There's talk about sequels for several of your films -- 'Enchanted,' 'Hop,' 'X-Men' and 'Hairspray.' If one could actually come together, which would it be and why? I would like to see an 'Enchanted' sequel. That is probably the most real and most talked-about. I've had the fortune of doing a few X-Men sequels. That said, I would welcome that as well. And Hairspray would just be a party and a blast. 'Straw Dogs' is in theaters on Sept. 16. Photos courtesy of Sony Pictures. Watch Movies Online

Megan Fox & Brian Austin Green Getting De-Inked
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Megan Fox and husband Brian Austin Green are fans of the ink, but theyve both recently decided to have a little less on display. Brian is removing some tattoos also, Megan told Access Hollywood at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, as she promoted Friends with Kids over the weekend. Megan is actually getting rid of her Marilyn Monroe bust, which is located on her lower arm, ink she had done at the age of 18. I just feel like her life was surrounded and shrouded in so much mystery and tragedy and she was troubled and there is negativity with her life and with her death, Megan said of motive for removing the screen legend. I just feel like there are better things to have inked on your body than someone who suffered so much, so in getting older, I just decided that is something I wanted to get rid of. While one thing is coming off Megans body, she confirmed theres something shes been adding on weight. I was on a vegan diet and I can get pretty thin naturally and apparently everyone was very frightened by that, so I had to try to put on a little bit of weight be a little healthier, she said. Play About Prop 8 Fight Readies for Broadway Debut
NEW YORK (AP) Dustin Lance Black sat in court and couldn't believe what he was seeing. The Academy Award-winning screenwriter, who is a board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, was in federal court in San Francisco last year hoping a judge would overturn California's gay marriage ban known as Proposition 8.What he watched was revelatory: Former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson had teamed with David Boies best known as adversaries who represented opposing sides in the disputed 2000 presidential election to put on a powerfully clear argument in favor of gay marriage."This was the first time I've ever seen our case argued by the most capable lawyers in the world, in a court of law where the other side had to raise their right hand and swear to tell the truth," Black says. "That is where, I think, for the first time, we in the gay and lesbian movement found sanity in the debate about who we are."There was only one problem few people could see the trial. Proposition 8 backers had succeeded in getting the U.S. Supreme Court to bar broadcast of the trial. Only a transcript would be available."It killed me to think that this would only live inside this courtroom for the dozens to see and not the country to see," Black says. "It killed me and I think it killed all of us in the room. We immediately started trying to figure out, 'How do we get this truth out there?"The answer will be seen next week when Black unveils the play "8," based on what happened at the trial. A one-night-only staged reading on Broadway has already attracted an all-star cast including Morgan Freeman, Anthony Edwards, John Lithgow, Christine Lahti, Rob Reiner, Larry Kramer and Marisa Tomei."We're very lucky that we were able to assemble actors that can amplify and show what actually happened in that courtroom," says Chad Griffin, president of the foundation. "It's made for the stage."Getting a role in the play has added emotional significance for Cheyenne Jackson, the "30 Rock" and Broadway star. He was cast as one of the plaintiffs before getting married this summer to his longtime partner Monte Lapka."It's kind of a strange, great, full-circle thing that '8' is happening," says Jackson. Black, he says, "can make the driest of court transcripts really come to life."The 90-minute play will be directed by Joe Mantello and is based on transcripts that are augmented by interviews with participants on both sides and firsthand observations. Black, who attended the trial every day, began work on the play even before Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled that Prop 8 was unconstitutional."I wanted to make it fair. I wanted to bring both sides' best argument," says Black, who also wrote the screenplay for "Milk," the film about the life of gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk. "If anything, I think it's overly fair to the opposition."The National Organization for Marriage, which backs Proposition 8 and other measures to forbid same-sex marriage nationwide, declined to comment. Protect Marriage, a coalition of religious and conservative groups, also declined comment, saying through spokeswoman Carla Hass that it is solely focused on appealing the case.At the reading Monday at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, Freeman will play Boise and Lithgow will play Olson. The other actors will play various plaintiffs, witnesses and experts. While the cast is all personally pro-gay marriage and Broadway is very gay friendly, some celebs will have to portray the other side.Bradley Whitford even anticipates some boos: He'll be playing Charles Cooper, the chief attorney for the anti-gay marriage side. "My goal in a situation like this is to be as clear, as articulate, as well-intentioned and with as little mustache-twirling as possible," says the former "West Wing" star.Reiner also is prepared for hissing. He'll be playing David Blankenhorn, president of the Institute for American Values, who was one of two witnesses called by the opponents of gay marriage. Luckily, Reiner was in court to see Blankenhorn testify, which will inform his portrait."If the world sees what happens in this trial, they'll realize that the other side simply had no case," says Reiner. "They presented no evidence and the witnesses that they did present the two that they did made our case for us."Another participant, former CNN anchor Campbell Brown, won't have to stretch too much. She's been asked to play a broadcast journalist who helps frame the court case. "Never in a million years did I ever think that this would happen," she says. "It sounded like such a fun night, it's for a great cause that I strongly support, and so I was thrilled to be a part of it."Kramer, the playwright and gay-rights activist, reached out to Mantello for a part in the reading of "8'' as soon as he heard about it. Kramer, whose long-awaited book "The American People" is to come out next year, adds: "I just think it's so important that we know our history the history of how badly we're treated and how hard we have to fight to get what we deserve, which is equality."The American Foundation for Equal Rights and fellow producer Broadway Impact, a gay-rights group, will license "8'' to schools and community organizations nationwide in order to spur action, dialogue and understanding. Dozens, it says, have so far asked to stage their own productions."I believe that this is something we're going to be telling our children about. I believe this is the Brown v. Board of Education of our civil rights movement," says Rory O'Malley, who stars in "The Book of Mormon" and is a co-founder of Broadway Impact.O'Malley was also in the courtroom every day and says watching Olson who was nominated by former President George W. Bush give his side's final arguments was "one of the profound and amazing experiences of my life. It's like watching Atticus Finch in 'To Kill a Mockingbird.'"The pro-gay marriage side, which vows to take their fight to the U.S. Supreme Court, says they hope "8'' will increase awareness of their plight in the same way the Laramie Project did for hate crimes or "The Vagina Monologues" did for domestic violence."I truly believe that this is the case for marriage equality that can be articulated across the country," O'Malley says. "We're just getting started. It's going to be a very powerful night, but it's just one night. We need to have this spoken in universities and theaters."Copyright 2011 Associated Press. Read Mel Gibson's Reason behind His Approaching Judah Maccabee Movie
Should you thought the whole planet have been absorbed through the Onion upon reading through this news that Mel Gibson is planning for a movie about Jewish religious leader Judah Maccabee (!) with Joe Eszterhas writing the script (!!), you most likely were not alone. On first, second and fifteenth blush, the concept continues to be tough to believe, a lot to ensure that the great folks at Vulture have develop an opportune parlor game you are able to fuss with about this slow Friday mid-day. ("Mel Gibson Writing a Jewish Hero Movie Is Much Like Who Doing What?" fave recommended answer: Tracy Morgan starring in 'The Normal Heart.') For Gibson, however, the Judah Maccabee film is really a passion project he's been wishing to create for some time. Inside a just-released interview through the Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg -Body carried out in the past, Goldberg states, included in research to have an approaching book he's covering Maccabee -- Gibson revealed a minimum of his way of thinking behind the project. "Someone said [Book of Maccabees I and II] after i was teen, and it is amazing. It's similar toInch -- here, he snapped up my dvr, held it to his mouth, and spoke inside a portentous movie-announcer voice -- "They profaned his Temple. They wiped out his father. They... a myriad of stuff. When confronted with great odds for something he supported" -- here he switched from movie-announcer voice -- "Oh, my God, the chances they faced. The armies they faced had tigers! How motion picture is! Even Judah's father -- what's his title? Mattathias? -- you type of understand this guy who pretty much is attempting to prevent the entire factor, but he just reaches a location where had enough, and that he just clicked!" The storyline of Judah Maccabee includes some cases of crude circumcision and general genital violence, such as the worry: per this year's-old interview, Gibson stated he'd leave that out. Not too he does not possess a joke for that occasion. "Hey, are you aware they will use foreskins for changing eyelids?" started the embattled star. Click to The Atlantic to see the punchline. Mere brother ki dulhan
A Yash Raj Films release and production. Created by Aditya Chopra. Executive producer, Aashish Singh. Directed, compiled by Ali Abbas Zafar. With: Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ali Zafar, Tara D'Souza, Kanwaljit Singh, Parikishat Sahni, Arfeen Kahn. (Hindi, British dialogue)Engaging leads, high-finish production values, wedding formulations, energetic musical amounts along with a familiar story should ensure healthy biz for "Mere brother ki dulhan," a light-weight, unambitious three-way romantic comedy whose utter of a routine might be its finest resource. Occasions are telegraphed in the start (the title, which means "My Brother's Bride," is really a dead giveaway) as our hero, requested by his London-based bro to locate him an Indian bride, falls on her themself. Audiences only need wait for a figures to trap as much as what auds know, then relax watching them learn how to accomplish it. An assistant film director in Mumbai, Kush (Imran Khan, as charmingly sane and laid-back quite the hero because he is at "Dehli Belly") gets to be a frantic telephone call from his investment-banker brother, Luv (Pakistani "prince of pop" and rising Bollywood star Ali Zafar, excellent here). Luv, that has just significantly split up with longtime g.f. Piali (Tara D'Souza) within the pic's explosive London opener, begs Kush to snag him a bride. Tyro author-director Ali Abbas Zafar (no regards to his star Ali Zafar) sensibly includes a few Kush's noisy, drunken co-employees and merely enough fancy, strobe-lit Bollywood party footage to achieve a saturation point making Kush's move to his traditional upper-middle-class home town feel welcome. An immediate montage of unattractive potential fiancees, seen alongside their cringe-inducing parents, substitutes for just about any better-developed comedy until Kush includes a brainstorm and they resort to advertising. His positioning of the clever matrimonial ad about the back page of the newspaper produces an ideal lady, Cavities Dixit (Katrina Kaif), the daughter of the high-placed diplomat. The only issue is the fact that Kush has experienced a romantically billed (if unconsummated) encounter with Cavities, performed in flashback from the coldly symbolic backdrop from the Taj Mahal -- an interlude that happened many years earlier, throughout Dimples' version like a high-octane rocker. The generally competent Kaif, equally sexy in most her various wardrobe-appropriate guises, shows the stress of maintaining her wild-and-crazy persona when given nothing zanier to complete than get inebriated and dangle her bags before Kush's face as they is attempting to navigate a new scooter. But credible chemistry finally unites the pair, Dimples' harebrained impetuousness contrasting nicely with Kush's taken into consideration weighing of options. Helmer-scripter Zafar keeps it simple. Though superficial moral conundrums abound, there's nary a villain around the corner to complicate the lovers' ultimate victory. Indeed, the film even conscripts Dimples' quasi-autistic brother (Arfeen Kahn) to experience Cupid. Tech credits are top-drawer, as is appropriate for a Yash Raj production.Camera (color, widescreen), Sudeep Chatterjee editor, Ritesh Soni music, Sohail Sen lyrics, Irshad Kamil production designer, Shruti Gupte costume designers, Rocky S., Harmeet Sethi, Neha Bhatnagar seem (Dolby Digital), Debasish Mishra line producer, Padam Bhushan choreographer, Bosco-Caesar.
